To Aru Kagaku no Railgun – 22

Uiharu promises Haruue that she will find Edosaki again, while Mikoto and Kuroko confide in Telestina about the Level Upper incident and the initial experiment to analyze forced ability overload by Kihara Gensei. Telestina then infers that these overloaded esper students might be the cause of the Poltergeist even when unconscious. Uiharu lends a hand in searching for the unconscious kids but not before making known to Kuroko her infuriation at how she accuses not only Haruue but her friends of the incidents as well. The next day, Telestina alerts Mikoto and Saten to the fact that Kiyama has been released on bail. At the same time, Kuroko deduces from a report by Kihara that the Poltergeist events might be the result of an AIM diffusion field resonance effect by the unconscious kids, which could cause the total destruction of the city when taking into consideration all the espers in the Academy City.

On the same night, Mikoto sneaks into the abandoned lab used by Kihara in search of clues but finds Kiyama instead. She then learns the truth from the Getoka doctor, who has been taking care of the kids. Turns out that Kihara had exposed the kids to crystallized esper essence in order to create a Level 6, and Getoka doctor had bailed Kiyama out to aid him in his research to revive the kids. Unfortunately, each time they show signs of awakening, their AIM diffusion fields become irregular, resulting in the Poltergeist cases. Unknown to everyone, Telestina has been shadowing Mikoto with her MAR team, and she declares that she would take custody of the kids. Kiyama tries to resist, but is stopped by Mikoto who informs her that her attempts so far have not been working, and that the children are crying for help.

Hero Getoka to the rescue!!

Or so I would like to say, till Hero Getoka’s last line broke my heart. I could literally hear it shattering as Kiyama accepts the brutal reality that she can do nothing for the kids, despite how much she cares for them. Mikoto bears no ill will in her actions, but I sure hope handing the kids over to Telestina won’t be the worse option. Who knows, she might be secretly working for Kihara (yes, I still trust her not).

Uiharu’s powers is so WTF that I have no words. I must admit I see no use for it so far, and I would have thought that she has the ability to bend the computers to her will or something. Maybe when her level increases it would be shown that she can manipulate temperature, but now? Hmm… And as mentioned last episode, she’s not wrong to be overly-trusting, but treating someone she knows for < 1 week so many times better than friends she has been with for so long?

2 more episodes to go.
