Kämpfer: Episode 9

And this weeks Kämpfer episode is “the beach” episode! actually, it was better than most of the previous episodes, but it would be even better if the swimsuits the girls were wearing weren’t so bland and boring. But it looks as though there will actually be some plot development!

And I changed the image, I found one with pretty much the whole cast of characters excluding the Messengers.

SUMMARY

So it turns out that at the beginning of the episode Natsuru has a date Akane, right after going out with Shizuku. And at her home Akane begins to get excited and all of that crap about going out with Natsuru, while all Seppuku Kuro Usagi (her messenger) does is tease her, but she get’s angry and beats the crap out of him(based on the sounds that came from her room…).

Akane and Natsuru arrive at the water park for their date and Akane is of course happy, it also turns out they’ll be spending the night at a hotel nerby~ Unfortunately for Akane, Sakura Mikto and Shizuku arrive right beside the two. All three of them have found out that Natsuru and Akane are going out on a date from a “mysterious source” the others are going to be sleeping at the hotel with them as well. Natsuru seems bored or depressed, so Mikoto cheers him up by bringing out Sakura(…), it immediately cheers him up, but Akane gets jealous. But Sakura isn’ t interested in meeting this Natsuru she wants to see the female Natsuru(she’s really obssed with her…). Sakura then tells Natsuru the she will not be handing (female) Natsuru over to him.

The girls all come out in their(fail) bikini’s(nothing else to insert here…), Shizuku has got the best one, but it is a bit plain still…

But with Natsuru being a healthy(???) teenage boy he get’s a bit horny(look at his face it’s obvious…)when he gets a look at Sakura in her bikini. But when Sakura comes out she is still wondering where the female Natsuru is and Shizuku just tells her that Natsuru will be out soon. Natsuru asks Sakura if she’d want to go swimming with him, but she tells him that she can’t swim and asks Shizuku if she’ll teach her(what a bit*h). In order to cheer Natsuru up(and it is her date) she offers to play with Natsuru along with Mikoto. Natsuru takes a look over at Shizuku teaching Sakura to swim, but Akane is right in front of him, and as usual she get jealous.

After having Mikoto push her off the diving board at the pool Akane get’s herself back together. And then Mikoto comes out of the pool….and for about 2 minutes Mikoto talks about her oppai and Akane’s slipping out their bikini’s…. Shizuku arrives after hearing the group talk about her and begins to feel Natsuru up, taking it as a challenge, Akane also tries it out for herslef as well. Shizuku tells Natsuru to call ‘her’ over, and a group of mysterious girls walks by Sakura.

Click the image above for the full bikini version~

So after the break Natsuru comes out now in ‘her’ bikini, embarrassed.

Both Sakura(of course) and Akane are hypnotized by Natsuru-san’s “nice body”. Excited Sakura ask if Natsuru could teach her how to swim. Natsuru-shan tells Sakura that she should ask the other Natsuru to teach her how to swim, but she looks away angrily and tells her no. She simply says that there’s nothing good about him and that it’s hard to find any reason to talk to him(that was…cold…). Since Natsuru-san is Natsuru ’she’ get’s depressed that Sakura despises ‘her’ true male side and falls to the ground.

Natsuru-san begins to try and teach Sakura how to swim, Natsuru-san let’s go of Sakura for a minute and begin to drown(yeah right) and then she climbs onto Natsuru-san a holds onto her, very, very tightly. Akane, from afar, watches what Sakura is doing to Natsuru-san and get’s angry like always, and sttempts to get her woman(man) back. So Akane grabs onto Natsuru-san and pretends as though she cannot swim and asks Natsuru-san to teach her.

Shizuku comes in and takes Natsuru-san away from the two woman. Natsuru-san was sent to go shopping by Shizuku but ends up going the wrong way into the area for the staff members of the park. She runs into another girl and asks for directions, but the girl shows Natsuru-san her bracelet and it turns out that she’s a white Kämpfer. She then shoots out a blue beam of something(?) at Natsuru-san. Another Kämpfer this time with a sword. And another white Kämpfer also comes from behind and points a gun right at Natsuru-san’s head.

It turns out that the Kämpfer with the green hair knows of Natsuru-san’s real identity. The Kampfer with the blonde hair’s name is Sayaka Nakao, the one wit the blue-like hair is Ryouka Yamakawa, and the green haired one is Hitomi Minagawa. The girls reveal that the moderators are the ones who set this up. Akane comes to the rescue(once again…) and saves Natsuru, and when the two meet they have one of their little “episodes”. Hitomi realizes that her group has the upper hand since it’s only two against one, but Shizuku arrives.

Shizuku tells them that they knew the group would show up if they sent one person out. Tired of seeing Natsuru and Akane argue, Hitomi and the others leave.

Later Natsuru is back to his normal male self and Akane asks about Sakura and the others.Natsuru told Sakura that Natsuru-san left, she started to cry, and then Natsuru told her that Natsuru-san would be back for the fireworks. Akane once again get jealous.

The little stuff-ed animal Kämpfer messengers arrive wet and soggy after taking a bath at the hot springs. The little guys ask Natsuru if he can dry them off,so he goes into the bathroom and squeezes the water out of each and every one of them, each of them commentingon how cruel Natsuru is for doing that. They are later hung in order to dry off.

Natsuru asks the Messengers if they can tell him about the white Kämpfer but Sakura is going to be arriving soon, so he says that all they can really do is sleep, and the phone rings. Sakura(or someone) was on the phone and told Natsuru that they’ll be waiting in another room.

apparently Akane thought Natsuru meant “that kind of sleep”

Everyone later meets up in a different room. With the other talking all Sakura can ask is, “when is the other Natsuru going to get here?” …

With Shizuku being the daring woman that she is, she takes a cup of soda and lick the sides of the cup and hands over to Natsuru to drink (an indirect kiss?), and everyone get’s excited over her bold move. Sakura says that there is something going on between the two of them, but Natsuru denies it, and Akane points out that they even went out on a date before, which Natsuru denies as well. But Shizuku takes out a present Natsuru gave to her on their date, and says that she’s been taking care of it. Sakura then asks Shizuku if her and Natsuru have ever kissed. She says yes. After hearing more about Natsuru and Shizuku’s relationshinship, Mikoto gets worked up .And right in front of everyone Shizuku (french) kisses Natsuru.

Everyone is surprised and Mikoto is angry of course, with Natsuru being a childhood friend of hers.

While everyone goes crazy, Sakura asks Natsuru to come outside with her. While outside, Sakura tells Natsuru to “come with her” (Natsuru seems hypnotized). The two walk away to “go see the fireworks.

THOUGHTS

WOW, Sakura? Looks like she’s got some sort of multipal-personality disorder. Seems like she’ll be the antagonist of the series, which I doubt any of us who are watching the series were expecting…and she’s even got herself a group of Kämpfer minions or something like that. And speaking of those new Kämpfers, Hitomi seems really hot(cute), especially her eye-catch, I really like it(the eyecatches are some of the best part of the episodes~ and they’ve been getting alot better~ ). But anyways~ the plot is moving really fast according to some people, were on episode 9 and in the 8th novel of the light novel series…that’s way  too fast, most 24-26 episode anime only get that far into a series…I wish they would slow down the story, it seemed to do pretty well for the first episode, and then by the second it moved to fast. And speaking of the plot…is it me, or did this episode seem to be all over the place? but I think that’s just an example of the story moving way too fast.

But despite all of the flaws in this series, and the few flaws in this episode…it was actually much better than what we’ve been getting from it lately, it seems as though Kämpfer has been trying to get itself together, the episodes seem to be getting a lot better than what they were before, especially this episode and 8(definitely not 6…). Unfortunately I think there aren’t enough episodes/they were too late to really try and establish some sort of arc/story and give it a nice or at least seemingly nice conclusion, but who knows, maybe it’ll be pretty good.

Shizuku is as bold as ever here.

Akane really seems to have a dirty mind, she seems to misunderstand everything Natsuru says, Akane also has really been trying hard to keep Natsuru to herself, don’tcha think and she has been getting jelous a alot lately as well. And does anyone else besides me think that Akane might be Bi?(not that it’s a bad thing)but she seems to be into both femal and male Natsuru… And the swimsuits were really plain, why can’t we get some like we see in the eyecatches?those are really nice~

I also really got a kick out the little Messengers just hanging there.

I know some people may be wondering what happened to series like Railgun and Sora no Otashimono, the ones I was going to blog on frequently, well, I haven’t done them since the first episode but I plan to start them this week, starting off with the latest episode, so I may have Railgun episode 9 out by today or tomorrow. I will try and continue till the end of each series, as long as their 12 episodes long…

Book of Bantora

A második legjobb anime a szezonban szerintem..

The Sacred Blacksmith

Már vártam az érkezését és beütött :D
Szeretem a fightos animéket a ” kis ” ecchi sem árt neki.
Az őszi szezonban a legjobb fantasy. Nem is tudom van-e másik. :D
Még néznék belőle pár részt.

Kobato

Fúhh erről  mit lehet írni.. Megkapjuk a heti Clamp adagunkat.

Darken Than Balck 2

Nézem tovább várom a folytatást lehetne több ilyen anime..

Nemsokára írok folytatást is.. A  téli szezonról hamarosan !
Viszlát :D

“I…love Saber…I want her to be happier than anyone…I’ve been hoping that we could be together forever…However…If I really do love her, then that’s wrong…I loved Saber, who bore many wounds yet still fought through everything…I cannot allow myself…to stain her pride…”

“It feels so close to me, yet I can’t grasp it even if i extend my hands. Even so… Even if I can’t reach it… There are things that stay in my heart. Being in the same time …and looking up at the same sky…If I can remember that, then even if we are far apart from each other, I believe we can be together. I will run forward now. If I set my goal far enough , then someday…I’ll be able to reach what I aimed for. ” – Shirou, Fate stay night

Overwhelming beauty.

Desktop Goodies: Rin Kokonoe Calendar Rainmeter

This is a Kaleon request of a Kodomo no Jikan Rainmeter skin. I’ve downloaded your pictures, man, and I can’t use them since they are jaggy and in low resolution. Therefore, I decided to use mine, instead. This Rainmeter skin is rather special since there is two Rin Kokonoe pictures. There are Rin in kimono version and Rin in police officer version. To toggle, just click the character and it will change to the other picture. Enjoy.

Review: Yozakura Quartet

Type: Action, Fantastique

Année: 2008

Public: Tout public

Avertissement: RAS

AMV Full Metal Panic - Faint (Linkin Park)

<< GO BACK

AMV FULL METAL PANIC
Soundtrack: Faint (Linkin Park)

I am
A little bit of loneliness
A little bit of disregard
A handful of complaints
But I can’t help the fact
That everyone can see these scars
I am
What I want you to want
What I want you to feel
But it’s like
No matter what I do
I can’t convince you
To just believe this is real
So I let go watching you
Turn your back like you always do
Face away and pretend that I’m not
But I’ll be here
‘Cause you’re all that I got

I can’t feel
The way I did before
Don’t turn your back on me
I won’t be ignored
Time won’t heal
This damage anymore
Don’t turn your back on me
I won’t be ignored

I am
A little bit insecure
A little unconfident
‘Cause you don’t understand
I do what I can
But sometimes I don’t make sense
I am
What you never want to say
But I’ve never had a doubt
It’s like no matter what I do
I can’t convince you
For once just to hear me out
So I let go watching you
Turn your back like you always do
Face away and pretend that I’m not
But I’ll be here
‘Cause you’re all that I got

I can’t feel
The way I did before
Don’t turn your back on me
I won’t be ignored
Time won’t heal
This damage anymore
Don’t turn your back on me
I won’t be ignored

No
Hear me out now
You’re gonna listen to me
Like it or not
Right now

Hear me out now
You’re going to listen to me
Like it or not
Right now

I can’t feel
The way I did before
Don’t turn your back on me
I won’t be ignored

I can’t feel
The way I did before
Don’t turn your back on me
I won’t be ignored
Time won’t heal
This damage anymore
Don’t turn your back on me
I won’t be ignored

I can’t feel
Don’t turn your back on me
I won’t be ignored
Time won’t heal
Don’t turn your back on me

State of the Fangirl

Man, I suck horribly at this blogging thing. A great deal of it could be attributed to my inherent laziness, and another bunch to the fact that I’ve never actually been inclined to spill out my feelings or keep a diary, so having blogs to begin with goes against who I am.

But I guess a few things in my head insisted on kicking themselves out as I mentally prep myself to watch Shingo’s musical Talk Like Singing today.

1) Ninkyo HELPER: I never managed to do a drama post for the Summer season (nor the Fall), but it’s one of the ones that stuck out at me from the beginning as being a winner. Did I ever underestimate that – the final episodes just build up into a crescendo, and then a very satisfying ending. Things are tied up, Yuki Jutta does hand motions that he should never do again, and even if you don’t particularly like the elderly, you will definitely at least feel for the old people on the show. Also, I may have become a pedophile, but Kato Seishiro’s squishable cheeks are entirely worth it. How did that boy EVER get only third place for Best Supporting Actor? I cried while watching this show. I can’t believe I just admitted that on a public forum.

2) Watarirouka Hashiritai’s 3rd single, also known as Kanpeki Gu~no Ne!, also known as the first (and current) ending to anime Fairy Tail. I have a friend who hates Fairy Tail with possibly every fiber of her being, mostly because – as she says – it’s an imitator of ONE PIECE, and not creator Mashima Hiro’s first try at it, either. Me, I don’t care about the similarities, so I’m still able to enjoy it. The opening theme song, by FUNKIST, is a light pop-rock number in the style of SID. Take that with a grain of salt, I’ve only really listened to two SID songs and one was a live version (Yuukan Collection, in case you’re wondering). But oh, the ending. It is upbeat and catchy and cute as hell, and I was totally fine with it being stuck in my head when I thought it was done by a seiyuu group with Hirano Aya in it. (I sort of imagined the others to include Kugimiya Rie, who also voices a character on the show.) Then I looked it up, and found out Watarirouka Hashiritai was an AKB48 subgroup, composed of mostly Team B girls. And it. Just. Won’t. Leave. My. Head. I’ve listened to it a grand total of four times, and I have the melody completely memorized.

…Susan was right. Fairy Tail is bad for me. LISTEN TO IT. IT WILL EAT YOUR SOUL.

3) Hold Up Down:  V6 fans have known about this gem for 4 years now, and if you’re not a V6 fan, there’s no guarantee you’ll enjoy this movie. But essentially, it’s a crack fest. The plot barely exists. The acting is about as much as you can expect from the individual members of V6. Bananaman makes cameo appearances – or one of them does. The other one is a running joke. And as is apparently expected of director Sabu, there are over the top car chases and a spectacularly over-the-top fight scene. But no, there is only one reason you should watch this. To join the Church of Frozen Jesus Homeless Guitar Player Okada Statue. Because as this movie will show you – he is truly awesome.

4) LIAR GAME Season 2: Longtime readers of the blog, if they exist, will remember my hearty approval of LIAR GAME when the show first aired. So season 2 and a movie was announced, and now the former has begun airing. It just isn’t as good. Matsuda Shota has always been prone to overacting for the role of Akiyama Shinichi, but this time his magnificently feminine hair isn’t a distraction. Toda Erika slipped comfortably back into her role as Kanzaki Nao, but the fame of being active these past two years has added a sort of maturity to her image that doesn’t fit the naive Nao. The new dealer, Solario, will haunt you in your nightmares with his bulgy-eyed mask. And now that the show has been lengthened to an hour, it seems like they had no idea how to fill up the time other than to replay “dramatic” moments in triplicate. Of course, there’s always Suzuki Kosuke’s excellent performance as Fukunaga Jun to keep viewers in. But maybe I shouldn’t have read the manga, because the magic’s sort of lost.

5) The DBSK vs. SME lawsuit grows tiresome. It’s also a prime example of why I don’t like stepping out into fandom – it’s a pretty ugly creature. For the people who’ve never cared, or the Tohorangers fans living under rocks on Pluto, basically a couple of months back The Girl, Ultra Mushroom, and Kamen Laser as I’ve identified them (Jaejoong, Yuchun, and Junsu to everyone else), sued SM Entertainment. Apparently they were investing in other ventures and SM wanted a cut of the profits from that, declaring that the ventures were making money from the name of DBSK being attached to it, and SM, being the creator of DBSK, had a right to it. This evolved into a dispute over the clasues in their contracts, and then into overall unfairness (their exclusive contracts are for 13 years). The remaining two, Bondage Ranger (Yunho) and Gi (Changmin), kind of stood off to the side until we were suddenly told they’d taken SM’s side – and what’s more, the three suers had a deadline to return to the group so activities would be continued. The deadline – November 12th, I think – passed, and the three didn’t return, leading SM to announce that the Shenzhen concert was canceled. Throughout all this, fans have mostly been “Pfft, SM, WE KNOW WHAT YOU’RE UP TO YOU BASTARDS.” and started a boycott of SM products to make SM lose more money show their support for DBSK.

Well, it’s probably just me, but though SM was kind of stupid for wanting profits out of the boys’ side investments, they do have a point in saying that DBSK wouldn’t exist without them. Jaechunsu can also make a point in not “returning” to the group, but let’s face it, even if the contract had only been 5 or 7 years, they totally would’ve renewed it to end up being 13 years (or more) anyways. SM is good at creating the image Korea wants, after all. (And JYP already has BIG BANG.) As for the fans, if SM’s not making any money off DBSK, what’s to say they’ll keep them? Never mind that the boycott could be costing them money from other artists. So who’s the biggest loser here? Me, for actually reading fans whining and bitching and moaning about this over and over. Can we be done with this already?

6) AAA’s latest single, Hide-away/Find you/Hide & Seek. On one hand, reusing the composition for all three songs with a different sound each time is supposed to make them comparable to Hamasaki Ayumi (Sunrise/Sunset), I guess. On the other, it’s cheap and makes it really easy to get really tired of the songs really quickly. And mostly, I’m sick of the splits. AAA is 5 guys and 2 girls together, not 5 guys and 2 girls occasionally smashed up in a hot aural orgy that’s cooling by the second. At this rate, 6th Anniversary will be two separate concerts – one girls-only, one guys-only. And neither crowd will be pretty.

7) Johnny’s, Johnny’s, Johnny’s. Earlier this week/last week, a Fuji TV member named Miyakawa Naoki sent out a cry for help through LiveJournal, trying to contact SMAP fans in the US for a story that aired on Monday. Well, that wasn’t the problem – hey, look, they know about LJ. Fuuuun. Well, no, one of the questions was “7. What is your favorite song of Smap’s, and your favorite drama, in which any of Smap members act?” If you can’t see the problem here, here’s a reminder – downloading/torrenting dramas is technically a gray area, but still a no-no. And while for a lot of people it’s easy to say Long Vacation or Hero or any other drama that has been out for years, some people are like me, only recent fans, yeah? And their favorite is quite possibly the amazing amazing MR. BRAIN that aired earlier this summer. Too early for DVDs. Or perhaps there was a mention of SMAPxSMAP or Utaban, the latter which would of course never be on DVDs. People did answer, though, and in the Tokudane clip no mention was made (not that I was really paying attention) of it, so hopefully this doesn’t open up a can of worms. (But but but Johnny’s, if you were to decide the US is a lucrative market, I’d be all up for going into the watching-when-it-airs-concert-attending-shrieking-fangirl business.)

I’m half-considering switching this blog thing up. Rather than having every entry – whenever they appear – focus on a singular topic, a weekly post of everything remotely interesting and related to the main subject of this blog. Perhaps something much like this. A valiant attempt to get back into the spirit of regularly blogging. To my non-existent readers, any non-existent thoughts?

Ayane - Arrival of Tears | Lyrics Translation

Song: Arrival of Tears
Artist: Ayane
Album: Arrival of Tears
Other: Opening Song for the anime 11eyes

yuganda kakusei no naka de akaki yoru ga me wo samaseba
kuroki yami towa no nemuri tsukikage ni obieteru

If the Red Nights awake with my distorted awakening,
I’ll eternally sleep in the Black Darkness fearing the Shadow of the Moon.

honoo ga tsutsumikondeku subete wo yakitsukushitemo
inori dake ha tayasazu ni tomo to kawashita asu no tame

The flames embrace everything, even if the world burns to a crisp,
I won’t stop from praying, it’s all for the future and my friends!

afureru namida renjou ni hibike boukyaku no tsurugi he to
setsunasa ni oboreteyuku tamashii fuyuu shiteyuku hikari
sora wo kirisaite kono sekai kibou wo daite ikou

Flowing tears ring with my voice and into the Sword of Oblivion.
My soul drowns in that instance, a light wanders around,
I shatter the Heavens, I embrace the hope of this world.

I wandered in the Night alone, I passed by the Heart of Rebirth,
that Spellbound Crest helps me CROSSOVER.

kareteyuku sono namida ga tsumi to batsu to aganai no
iro ni somerareteitemo tomo to kawashita asu no tame

Even if these dry tears are showered in
Crimes, Punishments, an Atonement, it’s all for my friends and future.

kanashii kako ga sokubaku suru nara sadame made sakaratte
amatsu he to tsuyoku kobushi kakage inochi made sasageyou

If my dreadful past are my chains, I’ll even go against Destiny.
I strongly raise my fist at the Heavens and even put my life on the line.
My shattered soul is here to change this world!

kuroki tsuki ga nemuru yoru akai namida koboreteku
sorezore no shisen no saki tomo to kawashita asu ga aru

During the night the Dark Moon sleeps, I shatter my Red Tears,
and what lies in everyone’s line of sight, is a future with our friends.

owaru koto nai namida ga nijinde kurayami ni tozasareta
seijaku ga tsutsumikonda sekia oto mo tatezu ni kieta

It’s not over yet, my tears blur, and I’m locked up in the Darkness,
the world taken over by Silence disappeared without a sound…

afureru namida renjou ni hibike boukyaku no tsurugi he to
setsunasa ni oboreteyuku tamashii fuyuu shiteyuku hikari
sora wo kirisaite kono sekai kibou wo idaite ikou

Flowing tears ring with my voice and into the Sword of Oblivion.
My soul drowns in that instance, a light wanders around,
I shatter the Heavens, I embrace the hope of this world.

Two Questions: Another Moe Discussion Part 1

Hi kids, it’s time to talk about moe again.

There’s two things I want to address here, the first is what is up with the strong feelings towards/against moe. The second topic I’m going to address tomorrow, so hold onto your hats!

We as anime fans on the internet can argue about moe all we want, whether it’s hurting or helping the industry or anime as an art form, whether it’s a boon or a detriment to storytelling, but when you strip away all of the noble back-and-forth posturing and gesturing, it basically comes down to two “yes” or “no” questions.

Does moe creep you out?

If so, are you okay with that?

And this is based on however you yourself interpret moe to be. Of course I’m generalizing, and there can be other reasons to dislike it, but from what I’ve seen this is the origin of the most vehement opposition to it is from the people who just cannot handle the idea that anyone proper of mind would like moe of all things, and its most ardent supporters are the ones who take offense to the idea that they are somehow developmentally insufficient.

Now it’s okay to be creeped out by moe, as that’s totally your prerogative. I may like moe myself, but it’s not like there hasn’t ever been an instance where I was creeped out by a piece of fiction and I was not okay with that. Specifically, I’m talking about that awful Thundercats comic from a few years back where they had Wily Kit and Wily Kat as bondage slaves to Mumm-Ra. Sure, they were adults in the comic but what the hell. That really weird sexualization of two comic side characters from a children’s cartoon bothered the hell out of me, especially because this was not some guy’s fanart but an actual official comic that was supposed to be like canon to the Thundercats story. In many ways I think it’s similar to the reaction that a lot of its opponents have against moe, replacing Thundercats with anime as a whole.

As to what influences perception of moe, that’s for the next post.

Significant drop in manga sales

One of the Japan’s most advanced industries, manga, it’s not what it used to be.

Recently, have been stated infos about a significant drop in manga sales,  which, for the artists and the publishers, is a very uncomfortable thing to hear. They realised that the public doesn’t react at their work [as they should] and this comes with the need of change.

For example Weekly Shonen Jump used to be sold in 6 millions copies each week back in ‘95. This year, only about 2, 8 millions copies, sankakucomplex.com informs us.

It seems that the public is going now on the characters profile, when buying a manga volume or magazine. Kadokawa entered this “character business” and they created characters to keep the audience up. But even with this, you cannot enjoy all the characters from the upcoming mangas, right?

Right! Because in a manga, you can have well-profiled characters, maybe exceptional ones, but in the end, it’s not important how a character is described but what he is capable to do. I say this because when I’m choosing a manga to read, it’s not because there’s a lovely teenage girl who likes to wear short skirts, but for the things she does, for her life-story. [but not everybody thinks like me]

And of course, because it’s a big industry, change is needed. I’m, personally, with the traditional manga, but because the world is moving so fast, manga is moving as well to a new evolution era. Manga will not dissapear, that’s for sure, but the public enjoying it is…

Maybe it’s because the artists creativity is getting low, maybe they prefer to watch anime instead, maybe because the “ero” and “moe” phenomenons are assaulting the industry, we don’t know for sure why people stopped reading manga.

Elfen Lied-one of the best manga ever created

picture property of mangavolume.com

And to end this article, I must say that if you are renouncing to manga for the sake of anime, you’re the dumbest motherfucker ever conceived…and for those who enjoy reading manga, make yourself a present, grab a volume!

Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0, the Dub Review

Delicious Eva-flavored Doritos

In honor of the first Rebuild of Evangelion movie being released on DVD in the U.S., I thought I’d post my thoughts of the dub. My dub review comes from a theatrical viewing of the dub a few months ago, and is not representative of the DVD. But they should be identical anyway.

First of all, I completely loathed the original Evangelion dub (and I hated the original movie dubs even more). It had one of the worst assembled casts of all time. Worse than the people in “Manos: The Hands of Fate.” Not to mention one of the shittiest directors, Matt Greenfield, ever. Basically, he just cast a bunch of his no-talent friends, and had them ham it up. The original dub is on par with what you’d find in a middle school drama class. It is fucking awful. A testament to why you should never watch a dub. And just in case any of you think I “hate all dubs,” let me explain something else. There are some anime dubs that I loved, and watch those shows exclusively in English (e.g. Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Outlaw Star, and Fullmetal Alchemist — just to name a few). Anyway, my expectations for the Rebuild of Evangelion dub were extremely low. I was expecting a turd on celluloid. So, how did it hold up?

Shinji – Spike Spencer performed much better than he ever did in the TV series. It seems like he has grown quite a lot as an actor. His line delivery was spot on almost all of the time. He embodied the role quite well, and was very convincing. The only complaint I have is that his screams are somewhat comical, and when Eva-01 got blasted by Ramiel, his screams were so ridiculous they actually made me laugh out loud. I don’t think the other theater-goers were very happy with me.

Misato – Allison Keith-Shipp did a good job, too. While I still think her acting can be a little weak, and her voice shrill, for the most part she was fine. She had the proper amount of gravity during dramatic scenes, and the right amount of lightheartedness in the fun scenes. She was probably the person I hated the most in the original dub, and I expected her to ruin the entire movie. Fortunately, she has improved a lot as an actor since her original performance in the TV series. Not bad, not bad at all.

Rei – Her voice actress was excellent. She was able to be quiet and solemn, without sounding fake and hoarse like Amanda Winn-Lee (the original english Rei). She doesn’t have that many lines, but her delivery for all of them was perfect. Without a doubt, she was one of the highlights of the dub.

Rei getting her Rick James on.

Gendo – Why is Crispin Freeman* not voicing this character? Gendo was all right, but not too memorable. He came off as more of a bastard than the previous dub actor, which is definitely a good thing. Still, there was something lacking in his performance. Maybe he came across as too emotionally involved, where Gendo should seem detached. Again, a good performance, but not amazing.     *Rumor has it that Robin Williams, a self-proclaimed Evangelion fan, also auditioned for the role of Gendo. While it might have been odd hearing a big star on an anime dub, I think he would have been much better than the person they went with. At least he would have sounded different than the actor who played Fuyutsuki.

Fuyutsuki – He sounds too much like Gendo, and sometimes it can be hard to tell which character is speaking. I’m apathetic to his performance as he does not have much of a presence in this movie.

Ritsuko – Sort of flat sounding. She had more of the detached voice that Gendo should have had. I think her actress, while good, could have been better. There’s just something about her voice that doesn’t quite fit the character.

Toji – The best Toji so far. At first I didn’t like his voice, but it grew on me. By the end, I thought he fit the role well.

Kensuke – I think that Greg Ayres did an awesome job. Even though he is omnipresent in anime these days, he did fine. His higher pitched, almost puberty-cracking voice was perfect for the role. He had the right amount of enthusiasm and nerdiness to make Kensuke memorable.

Keel – Although he only shows up in Monolith form, his voice is menacing as hell. Great choice.

Kaworu – He seemed all right, but his part was too brief to make any real judgment.

Bridge Bunnies – They sort of just blend into the scenes, and nobody stood apart from the others.
While I don’t think this cast will ever surpass the original Japanese actors, Funimation did a damn good job. This time they had a real director instead of motherfucking Matt Greenfield, and that payed off in spades. Spike and Allison have had years to improve their skills, and with a competent director, were able to turn in great performances. Overall, the dub was good, and I can entertain the idea of watching it again in the future. While the original Japanese is still the best, this English dub is a vast improvement over the ADV dub.

And also, it rocked watching Evangelion in a movie theater, on the big screen.

Verdict: Good

School Rumble Ni Gakki

I <3 Avatar: The Last Airbender

Ahh, so this is how the US do anime. Avatar – The Last Airbender is one of the best animated series I’ve seen that’s not imported from Japan. Heck, I think it’s the best anime ever! Uhmm, well, it’s not technically an anime since it’s not from Japan, Nickelodeon created it. I already finished seasons 1 and 2 and so far I am loving it!

The story is cool and interesting, it’s about a kid with his friends trying to save the world from a nation that wants world domination. Also, the characters are pretty cool, Aang is the Avatar that knows how to control all elements, Katara is the nice girl that has some water bending skills and Sokka is the guy that you can’t help but laugh at once in a while. The comic reliefs are really really hilarious. The series is light in violence, but large in action. It would not only appeal to those who are into Japanese anime, but also to those who also don’t. It’s that good! I recommend you all to see it.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is already out on dvd. I saw one on SM selling for less than 1k for each season. The series has 3 seasons with 20, 20, and 21 episodes respectively. Also, TV5 airs it on weekdays, from 5:30pm to 6:00pm.

Thanks to Patrick for giving me a copy of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Anime Review: Tsukuyomi Moon Phase

So I just watched the first five episode of  Moon Phase again tonight and I honestly wanted to do a review for it. After watching it once more I remember everything that I thought of it. This anime has been out for a while and has been dubed in english(blah!). Ok time for the review…

This series is for those who prefer their vampires to be cute as kittens more often than they are dark and brooding. The mood of the series, like Hazuki’s personalities, tend to alternate between the two, although it generally works better when emphasizing the moe aspects, which it does a lot. That said, people with an aversion to cat-eared girls and little-sister types are advised to stay far away. The plot tends to switch between stretches of seriousness and levity: the first two episodes deal with Hazuki meeting Kohei and escaping the castle, then settling into a silly daily routine before dealing with more villains a few episodes later. The story has some difficulty balancing character and relationship developments with plot progression unless it separates such things into different episodes. Perhaps this is why, despite several of the tragedies that various characters suffer, there is little emotional draw to them. Also, as with many adaptations of unfinished manga, a number of plot threads are left untied with the series conclusion, although the series does conclude solidly enough.

The cast are entertaining, although some people may find a number of the younger females straddle the line between adorable and irritating. Hazuki starts off as a stubborn and slightly spoiled little girl, but grows into more of a kinder, caring person over the course of the series. Kohei is the typical kind-hearted and honest but unimpressive boy with an unusual ability/curse that you’ve seen in so many other series. The supporting cast brings a bit of liveliness to the show. Haiji brings a bit of humor as Hazuki’s cat-like pet, frequently scolding her master’s servant Kohei. Seiji brings a bit of class as the cool-looking and talented relative of Kohei. The best characters, though, are probably Ryuhei and Elfriede, who regularly tease the lead characters, but also connect to each other on a deeper level and share some of the most tender moments in the series.

One can’t really talk about Moon Phase without mentioning it’s stylistic quirks. As with pretty much any work directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, one should expect interesting and different uses of light and color in many scenes throughout. The typical depiction of the house were much of the story occurs is also diplayed much like a dollhouse, opened up so as to see in all the rooms at once. Also, infamously, yellow washpans are known to come crashing down on various characters for comedic effect.

Designs for the characters are crisp, and backgrounds are appropriately detailed. Action scenes may not be breath-taking, but they are more than adequate for the task they mean to achieve. While the initial television episodes did have a few problems during important scenes, these were all rectified in the DVD release.

Voice work for both languages is nice, although Monica Rial just can’t quite match the level of cuteness that Chiwa Saito attained playing Hazuki (a minor issue, but Rail’s voice just gets annoying after a while). Background music for the episodes is chosen appropriately for the scene, although it is at times a little overbearing. The dark scenes are supported by haunting and gothic-sounding tones, while the cheery moments are punctuated by spunky and playful tunes. The most catchy song (for good or bad) is absolutely the opening theme, “Neko Mimi Mode De”. It’s particularly surprising when it drastically interrupts the gloomy introductory scene of the first episode with it’s bubbly, sugary tune, simplistic lyrics, and bright colors. The song is devastatingly appropriate for the show. A couple of episodes have an alternate opening song, “Tsukuyomi Mode”, that is less syrupy and not so overly energetic, but similar. The closer, on the other hand, is slightly melancholy and more subdued, but leaves little lasting impression.

Moon Phase sets out to be a vampire series built around the concept of “moe”, and it largely succeeds. At times, it tries to be something a little more, and it is less definitive in its achievement when attempting this, but rarely strays far from its strength. In all, the series is an entertaining diversion for those looking for something just a little different.

Anime "Darker Than Black 2" (Capítulo 5)

Título: Darker Than Black 2: Ryuusei No Gemini
Género: Shônen, Acción, Misterio, Sobrenatural
Episodios: ¿?
Web Oficial: Darker Than Black 2
Descarga Directa: McAnime

Sinopsis:

(JUA  JUA  JUA  JUA)

11 Eyes ep. 01-04

I started a newish anime called 11 eyes which circles around certain “chosen” students we are randomly pulled into a dark alternate dimension of Tokyo called the Red Night.  Most of them show incredible special abilities used to counter the “Dark Knights” and demon-like creatures that reside within.  I was hooked immediately with the blood-shed pre-opening in the very first episode.  The characters are good so far, especially the overly well-endowed school nurse and the boob fondling dual personality book-worm.

It reminds me a bit of a mix of Kaze no Stigma for the abilities and D.gray man for the demons.  I just keep thinking “level 3 Akuma” when I see the Dark Knights.

This one is defiantly going on my weekly update list.

anime and i: in which miyazaki makes me a nicer person

I just re-watched Miyazaki’s version of Diana Wynne Jones’s Howl’s Moving Castle, and it’s churning up this strange and unwilling fondness for anime in me. (It did the first time too, but I dismissed it as an aberration.) Even though Miyazaki changed vast chunks of the plot, even though the characters have the giant eyes and tiny noses of anime that normally annoy me so much, and even though strange airships blimped around the entire time, I can think of few other book-based films which I actually liked enough to watch again. Certainly no comic or fantasy-based film has ever left me anything except indignant and nit-picking: there were always a million small things, and often some huge things, that rang clangily hollow. The only exception (Even movie-Watchmen’s slavish adherence to all things except the giant squid seemed, somehow, to lack the intense hysteria of the comic) is Sin City, which exactly replicated the filthy noir quality that I loved in the comics, where what you couldn’t see in the heavy darkness loomed large over what you did see.

As with Sin City, the implication by enshrouding that there is an entire world that is new and strange to the reader seems to work very neatly in Howl’s Moving Castle. What happens, I suspect, is that animation has an abstract quality that makes it so much easier to watch and re-imagine in the watching than an actual film. So even though Calcifer the fire demon (for instance) didn’t look like the Calcifer in my head, he was an excellent abstract of said Calcifer-in-my-head.

This is, of course, inherent to cinema, and perhaps I should stop watching altogether. Films are obsessed with maintaining the appearance of reality. Any self-respecting film would try to show you what a Calcifer would look like if Calcifers existed in our world, bound by its optical laws. Except, in doing so, they miss the entire point of fantasy which is this: Calcifer does not and cannot exist in our reality. This is why he is a fantastic character. The only place where Calcifer exists and should exist, is elsewhere. This is why however magnificent FilmAslan is, he is still just a regular, if largeish lion, prancing around on screen. In making him realistic, most of the abstract qualities that hover around BookAslan (Aslan as stand-in for god, Aslan as inherently just, and Aslan as inherently unknowable) are obliged to go away, because there is no visual way to portray them realistically, and even swelling orchestral soundtracks can only do so much. Animation is, for me, particularly suited for rendering fantasy, because of the fact that it works with symbols and metaphors, rather than representations of reality: it gives you rough ideas, but the actual work happens in your head – as it should, to be truly fantastic.

Anyway. Back to Miyazaki. The characters are all very nicely distinguished, in the way they speak and move and hold themselves. Howl himself was completely unlike the way I’d imagined him, with his strange air of vulnerability. I liked, too, the way that it was his body that was the site of desire, not hers: both YoungSophie and OldSophie are more or less shapeless, wrapped up in stout shoes, layers of petticoats and voluminous gowns, while Howl’s body is depicted in slim, delicate lines. It’s Howl who is so obsessed with his own attractiveness that he sobs himself into a pool of green snot when his hair turns orange; later, he wanders around in a towel that slips coyly off, and it’s Sophie who determinedly does not to ogle. Howl’s vulnerability is constantly in play, in his repeated exhaustion, and the increasing frailty of his bird-form. In contrast, Sophie, even when aged, is satisfyingly solid. She is bursting with determination and stamina: she stomps determinedly up the very long and steep palace steps carrying a dog, even taking the trouble to pep-talk the Witch of the Waste through the climb; she cleans constantly, and she looks after all the other characters. Though Sophie’s degree of agedness careens wildly, and though she is voiced by two separate actresses (one for young and one for old Sophie) she is somehow tangibly always the same person: its her persistent vitality that holds the whole story together.

The war scenes combine just the right amount of realism (the blimps and the images of burning buildings) and pure comic-ness (by comic-ness I do not mean comedy: I mean the quality of being a comic) as when the blimps have wings and let loose strange annoying giant insects, along with their bombs. The fact that none of this is actually in the book, made little difference: it is still a beautiful, intuitive and thoroughly original film which somehow manages to be Howl’s Moving Castle, in addition to all the other things it is.

So yes, I take back many of the uncharitable things I may have said about anime in the not-so-distant past. It can pretend to be as cutesy as it wants:  now that I know that it’s secretly all sharp steel and strange flourishes underneath, I won’t be fooled again. Sometimes, anyway.

what your bottom 5 anime say about you

Top 5 lists are old and busted. Bottom 5 lists, now that’s the new hotness. In a nutshell, there are basically four different types of bottom 5 lists:

#1:
Gundam Seed
K-On
Naruto
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei

This is clearly The Hater. The Hater hates. What does The Hater hate? The Hater can hate all sorts of different things: popular shows, specific genres, moe, newfags, difficult shows (that they don’t get), praised shows, and so on.

#2
A Certain Magical Index
Akane-iro no Somaru Saka
Akikan
Linebarrels of Iron
Myself;Yourself

This is The Fan That Doesn’t Watch Enough Anime. The Fan That Doesn’t Watch Enough Anime doesn’t watch enough anime. Most of these shows will have come out in the last year or two, and often really aren’t necessarily that terrible. They’re the kind of shows that will be (if not already) forgotten in a few months. In other words, The Fan That Doesn’t Watch Enough Anime doesn’t really have much perspective when it comes to what’s bad.

#3
Garzey’s Wing
Mad Bull 34
MD Geist
Musashi Gun-dou
Queen’s Blade

This is The Guy That Watched All of CPM’s Old Catalog. The Guy That Watched All of CPM’s Old Catalog watches lots of truly bad anime, but these are the kind of bad anime that are so bad that they’re fun to watch. I’d take one episode of Mad Bull 34 over one episode of a decent-but-not-particularly-amazing show like I dunno, Toradora any day of the week.

#4
Eiken
Naruto: Konoha Annual Sports Festival E’s Otherwise
Sister Princess
Tenshi ni Narumon
UFO Princess Valkyrie

Finally, we have The Guy That Watches Way Too Much Shitty Anime. In other words, me. This is my personal bottom 5 anime. Note that these were generally shows that I was forced to watch.

Nuevo Anime de Da Capo. -Primavera 2010-

http://www.notcliche.com/lbw/new-d-c-da-capo-anime-and-novel-in-the-works

Esperemos no decepcione y sean 26 capitulos

Wallpapers: November 1, 2009

As someone who’s always on the hunt for good wallpapers, I appreciate when others share theirs. In that spirit I’ll be posting the images that adorn my iPhone and Macbook Pro each time I change them. Sometimes that’s quite regular, sometimes I like an image so much that I keep it for months and months, but whenever it happens I’ll be sure to share the goods with you.

My incurable Eva Fever is quite strong at the moment, thanks to the fact that I recently watched the first two films in the Rebuild of Evangelion. Both of these images are fairly new (as far as I’m aware, they’re promo material for 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance) and practically begged to be used as you see below. If you agree, click through to the full article to download them for yourself.

Download iPhone: wallpaper / source
Download Desktop: 16:10 / 4:3 / source

The desktop versions are at high-end resolutions so that they can easily be scaled for most monitors.
Note that the source images may be quite large.
