Anime Review: Honey & Clover

Comedy, but not totally comedy.

Romance, not totally romance.

Slice of life growing up series.

5 students as they face and resolve trials in life – from unrequited love to learning the responsibilities of being an adult to finding a goal in life.

the animation and music are bound to capture your attention

It’s hard to choose a favourite character, because by the end of everything, there is no character whom you do not care for, or are not in love with.

What carries the series through most of all, imo, are the seiyuuz and insert songs. Each narration, each line, each word they say convey the characters’ emotions clearly to the audience. how many of you can forget about Takemoto’s continuous narrations, as he feels the insecurity of  being lost and having no direction to turn to, as he motivates himself to achieve the objectives he set for himself by believing and taking things one step at a time, or how even though they never managed to go to the beach or take a photo together, that image would always be imprinted at the back of their minds. Each line that a character utters contains an insight on the theme of the show, aka growing up. Personally, one line that left the deepest impression on me is from Mayama in ep 1: “” because that truly is the time when I first fell in love with the show.

Reading about the show is never enough, you gotta experience it for yourself.

this must be the only series with an insert song in almost every episode, but each song is absolutely fitting for the occasion and serves to express the message of the moment even clearer.
